Developing FBAs & BIPs Across Special Education & Tiers of Support
*This is a three (3) day event - Day 1 - Tuesday, October 23, 2018 Day 2-Thursday, December 6, 2018 Day 3 - Friday, December 7, 2018 Audience: Grades K-12 - General and Special Education Administrators and Teachers, School Psychologists, and Student Support Services Professionals Presenters: Amanda Pickett, SERC Consultant and Christine Kuehlewind, SERC Consultant Description: In this three‐part session, school administration and staff will learn about systems and structures that aid in supporting students’ behavioral, social‐emotional, and mental health needs for students across tiers of support and special education. Participants will discover best practices for conducting functional behavior assessments (FBAs), learn how to develop and write effective behavior intervention plans (BIPs) for students who need behavioral supports, and better understand the role of the facilitator of the process. This session is designed to help them navigate implementation, classroom supports, and facilitation. As participants learn more about the system supports needed and the behavioral support process for these students, they will better understand the motivation, pay‐off, or function of a student’s problem behavior. They will then use that information to identify and implement effective interventions to include in BIPs.
